Muggles tend to have cats or dogs as their animal companions, however, in the Wizarding World, you won’t find your average household pets keeping wizards company. Instead, you’ll find giant Boarhounds, twiggy tree-guardians, snowy owls and even half horse, half eagle creatures – you name it!
Magical animal companions play a big role in wizards and witches’ lives. Not only do they make us happier and healthier but they also form powerful bonds with their owners, protecting them at all times.
If you’ve received your acceptance letter from Hogwarts, you must be happy to know that you can take your magical best friend “an owl or a cat or a toad” with you when term starts. You might find that other wizards found a way to bring to school some more exotic pets, from tarantulas to Pygmy Puffs, so if you have a more unusual animal friend, you can probably get away with it (don’t quote us on this!).
Perhaps you don’t have an animal companion yet, don’t worry! Why not pop by the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley to see if you fall in love with one of the pets there or if you’ve enrolled into a different school that doesn’t allow furry, feathery or slimy friends, we’ve put together some of our favourite magical creatures (in jewellery form, of course!) that will keep you company and won’t get you in trouble!
Owls.
Snowy owls, barn owls, eagle owls and many other owls are good companions to wizards and witches all around. These creatures are most often used for delivering post and parcels, but they are also great companions, as we learnt from Harry’s closest animal friend, Hedwig, the snowy owl.
We have available a variety of Hedwig jewellery, including Hedwig sterling silver slider charm, Hedwig pin badge, Hedwig slider charm, Hedwig pen and Hedwig bookmark.
Hippogriffs.
Buckbeak, the hippogriff, is a bit of a more unusual kind of pet but it is one of Hagrid’s beloved animals and that’s all we’ve got to say. I mean, who else would have a hippogriff as a pet? This magical creature is half horse, half eagle and is a highly affectionate and loyal to those who treat them with respect.

Bowtruckles.
We started getting to know these little stick creatures during Professor Grubbly-Plank’s Care of Magical creatures class (that day when Hagrid when mysteriously missing). But it wasn’t until we met Pickett, Newt Scamander’s little friend, that we completely fell for these twiggy tree-guardians.
And don’t mistake their cuteness for all-time friendliness because if the wand-tree where they live is ever threatened, they have sharp fingers and know how to use them. Want to have a Bowtruckle friend which will have your back and will help pick your handcuffs if you are ever in trouble? Leave the actual Bowtruckles in natural and stick to our bowtruckle pin badges, bowtruckle slider charms.
Nifflers.
These black-furred, long-snouted creatures are incredibly intelligent, mischievous and have a strong passion for anything glittery or shiny. Even though Hagrid would advise against having a Niffler as a pet because they wreck houses in search of shiny objects, Newt Scamander mentions how gentle and affectionate Nifflers can be. Perhaps we should leave these burrowing creatures for experienced Magizoologists?
But then again, even if they make a mess, who can stay mad at their sweet little faces? Get your niffler pin badges, niffler keyrings, niffler slider charms or niffler necklaces today.
Dogs.
Another of Hagrid’s dearest pets is Fang, the giant boarhound, which kept him company in his hut and during walks in the Forbidden Forest. This over-friendly dog was loyal and looked much fiercer than he actually is. In fact, as Hagrid puts it, Fang was a “bloody coward” but that didn’t change the fact that he was a great companion. We have Hagrid’s dog Fang slider charms and Hagrid’s dog Fang necklaces so that you can have your own giant Boarhound in miniature size.
And if a giant dog is not magical enough, would a three-headed dog do the trick? Fluffy, the three-headed hellhound demon dog, that guarded the Philosopher's stone, was also one of Hagrid's many pets and a sweet-heart (once music was playing). In case you want Fluffy to protect you at all times, be sure to get our Fluffy three headed dog slider charm.
Snakes.
Snakes are the official symbol of the Slytherin House which probably explains their regular association with Dark Magic and evil wizards. One of the most notorious and wicked snakes of all time was Nagini, a Maledictures who became a green snake, Voldemort’s companion and the only creature that he trusted.
Probably not one of the most affectionate magical creatures in the Wizarding World and definitely not the most lovable pet but with an incredibly close bond with You-Know-Who, Nagini showed that even the most evil wizards can care about another living thing, which in this case was a twelve-feet long snake. If you want a slithery snake to keep you company, why not choose our Nagini choker necklace?
Many other fantastic creatures roam this magical world, but for now, these are some of our favourites. Plus, some creatures haven’t even been discovered yet and others can only be seen by Luna Lovegood, including Moon Frogs, Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Gulping Plimpies, so we’ll leave those for her to explain more about!
